A call for artists and illustrators to help a shelter for free-roaming animals located
in the heart of Tuscany.
Ohana Animal Rescue Family is a place where every living
being is free to be themselves.
All the works were used to set up an exhibition to allow the public to get to know the shelter's inhabitants, and bookmarks were made that were sold to raise funds. This initiative was created and promoted by the collective Le Vanvere.

He is Giuggi, a rebellious duck!

Giuggi is a little rebel who, in the summer of 2021, broke free by escaping from the breeding farm where he was with his mother, brothers and sisters.
He was found alone on the street, very small, near a breeding farm. The person who found him was about to take him back to whoever was holding him, but realised that this would have meant his death. So she decided to find him a home where he could live a life of freedom, and that's how he arrived at Ohana.
When he arrived, he was so small that he could have fit back into the egg! He was certainly only a few days old and initially lived at home with Luigi and Letizia.
Since he was so small and we didn't recognise his sex, we called him Giuggi, which stood for Giuggiolo or Giuggiola. Now he lives in the large space reserved for birds, with the chickens and geese.

She is Kruzska, a cute blind sheep

Kruzska arrived from Ohana in March 2017. Born completely blind on a farm near the shelter, she took the shepherd as a point of reference and followed him step by step, instead of staying with the other sheep. This attitude was a burden for the shepherd. She asked us if we wanted to take her, otherwise, he would send her to the slaughterhouse earlier than expected. That same evening, we went to get her before she could change her mind.
When she arrived, she was about 3 months old, she slowly managed to become familiar with her new environment. As she grew, her sense of smell improved, which allowed her to recognise an obstacle before bumping into it. She became independent, managing to move autonomously in her territory. She never accepted living together with the other sheep, despite being in contact with them practically all day. Kruzska is particularly habitual; in the morning, she leaves her accommodation very early and returns last, spending the whole day free to do and go wherever she wants. It is sad for us to know that she cannot see, but we are sure that she has a vision of everything around her.

He's Ricky and he loves to roll in the mud!

Ricky was used for years in horse racing competitions throughout Europe, often facing exhausting journeys. Like all horses destined for racing, he led a highly stressful life whose rhythms he did not decide, as someone planned his training days for the next race.
When he arrived at the shelter, Ricky was very tired but also eager to experience the freedom that had been denied him until that moment; the first few days he did not stop rolling in the mud and running, because he had been waiting for years for the opportunity to do so without anyone imposing it on him. Over time, he understood that this is his new life and that no one will ever be able to take it away from him. Ricky shared the pasture with the donkey Lulù and the cattle Vittorio, Ginevra and Isotta until March. Unfortunately, following the landslide that we had at the shelter due to bad weather, Ricky and Lulù were temporarily moved to a stable on another plot of land for their safety.
